# Best Wear OS voice recorder apps: 7 compared

Checked 1 November 2026 by the Murlivo team.

Quick answer

For an established Wear OS recorder with cloud backup and many export options, Wear Audio Recorder is the most installed choice. If you own a Pixel phone and a Pixel Watch, Google Recorder is built in, and Galaxy Watch owners have Samsung Voice Recorder. For AI summaries and one library on your phone, computer and watch, Wave added a Wear OS app in July 2026; it transcribes in the cloud. If you want each recording transcribed offline on your phone and saved as a Markdown note in your own folder, such as an Obsidian vault, use Murlivo.

**Murlivo for Android** Records on your phone or your Wear OS watch and transcribes offline on the phone. Free, no account. The phone alone is enough.

[Get it on Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.odezio.murlivo)

A Wear OS voice recorder should start fast from the wrist, keep recording when the phone is out of reach, and get the audio to the phone without cables. Some apps also turn speech into text. The seven apps below differ most in four things: whether the watch can record alone, how the audio reaches the phone, whether you get text, and what you can export.

## Which recorder fits your job?

Wear OS recorders compared, checked 20 October 2026; Wave and Capture Flow checked 22 October 2026.

## Murlivo: transcripts made offline, saved as notes

**Best for:** voice notes, dictations and meetings that should end up as text in your own notes folder, without a server.

Murlivo works on an Android phone alone; the Wear OS app is an extra. On the watch, a tile or a complication starts a recording in one tap. The watch records on its own, even away from the phone, keeps the audio and sends it when the phone is back in range. The phone then transcribes it offline, after a one-time speech model download, and adds it to one Markdown note per day in an `Inbox` folder inside a folder you choose, with the audio kept in a subfolder. There is no account, no subscription and no ads.[10, 11]

What it does not do: it does not back recordings up to a cloud drive, it does not export subtitles, and the watch never transcribes by itself, so you need the phone app too. It needs Wear OS 3 or newer and Android 11 or newer.[10]

## Wear Audio Recorder: the most installed Wear OS recorder

**Best for:** recording on the watch with automatic sync, cloud backup and subtitle export.

Wear Audio Recorder has more than 1 million installs and a 4.1 rating on Google Play. It works on the watch and on the phone, separately or together, keeps recording with the screen off, and syncs recordings from the watch to the phone by itself. It can back up to Dropbox and Google Drive. Its listing says it turns speech into text in more than 90 languages, split by speaker, and saves the text as .txt or .srt subtitles. The app is free with in-app purchases; a subscription unlocks extended audio formats.[1] Its privacy policy says transcription runs on a server: each recording you choose to transcribe is uploaded to the developer's server, which sends it to an outside speech-recognition service, and you sign in with a Google account first. Its terms sell transcription time separately, billed per second of audio.[12, 13]

Pick it over Murlivo if you want cloud backup, subtitles or a long track record. Pick Murlivo if you want the text written into a Markdown notes folder and the audio to move only between your watch and phone.

## Wave: cloud transcripts and summaries, now on Wear OS

**Best for:** AI summaries and one library on your phone, computer and watch, if you are fine with uploading your audio.

Wave is an AI note taker with a Wear OS app since July 2026, for Wear OS 3 or newer.[14, 15] The watch records, keeps the audio while the phone is out of range, and hands it to the Wave app on the phone, which uploads it.[15] Wave's servers then write the transcript, with speaker labels in 76 languages, and a summary with the key points and action items.[16, 17] You need an account; free accounts get 30 minutes of audio a month, and Pro costs from $80 a year or $15 a month.[18, 19] You export each recording to Notion, Google Docs, OneNote, Evernote, PDF or Word.[16]

What Wave does better: summaries, chat across all your recordings, a meeting bot for Zoom, Meet and Teams calls, more languages, and the same library on iPhone, the web, Mac, Windows and Apple Watch.[16] Pick Murlivo if you want the text made on your phone without internet, no account and no monthly limit, and plain Markdown files in your own folder. ## Google Recorder: built in for Pixel owners

**Best for:** people with a Pixel phone and a Pixel Watch.

Google Recorder is available on Wear OS with a watch face tile.[3] On a Pixel Watch, you choose to sync recordings to the phone or keep them on the watch; syncing to the phone gives a full transcript, editing, search and, on a Pixel 8 or newer, an AI summary. The app works only with Pixel phones.[4] You can export a transcript as a .txt file or share it to Google Docs.[5] Google notes that re-transcribing may process audio on its servers.[6]

## Samsung Voice Recorder: built in for Galaxy Watch

**Best for:** Galaxy Watch owners with a Samsung phone.

Samsung's Voice Recorder records on Galaxy Watch4 and newer.[8] To get text, you open the recording in the Voice Recorder app on the phone and tap Transcribe.[7] Samsung's help pages that we checked do not say where the transcription runs or which export formats there are.

## Voice Recorder for Wear OS: audio files, no text

**Best for:** long audio-only recordings with a choice of bit rate.

This app records on the watch with no time limit other than free storage, at 96 to 256 kbps. To receive the files on the phone you install its companion phone app, which can play them and share them through Android. Its listing does not mention transcription. It is free with in-app purchases and rates 2.9 on Google Play.[2]

## Capture Flow: a new watch-to-phone recorder

**Best for:** controlling watch recordings from the phone or with wrist gestures, with cloud transcripts as a paid extra.

Capture Flow: Wear OS Recorder is a new app with 100+ installs on Google Play, last updated in September 2026. It records on the watch or on the phone, can pause and resume, lets you start and stop a watch recording from the phone or with wrist gestures on supported watches, and moves recordings from the watch to the paired phone by itself. For text, you upload a recording for an AI transcript: its listing says transcription needs an internet connection, and AI transcripts come with its optional subscription, together with unlimited recordings and cloud backup. New users get a free recording allowance.[20] The listing does not say whether the watch keeps recording when the phone is out of range, or which export formats there are.

Pick it over Murlivo if you want wrist gestures, to start a watch recording from the phone, or a cloud backup. Pick Murlivo if you want the text without internet or a subscription.

## Not in the table

Wear Notes is a notes app rather than a recorder: it sends typed or spoken text from the phone to the watch as a card, and its listing was last updated in February 2022.[9]

## How we compared

We make Murlivo and wrote this page, so read it knowing that. We compared seven Wear OS voice recorders, Murlivo among them, from their public Google Play listings, help pages and websites, checked on 20 October 2026 (Wave and Capture Flow on 22 October 2026), and every claim about another app links to its source in the References. We did not install and test every app, so where a listing does not say something (for example, whether speech is turned into text on the device or on a server), this page says it is not stated instead of guessing. If anything here is wrong or out of date, write to [support@murlivo.com](mailto:support@murlivo.com) and we will fix it.
