# Record and transcribe meetings and lectures on your Android phone

Checked 1 November 2026 by the Murlivo team.

Quick answer

Put your Android phone near the speaker, open Murlivo and tap the record button. Tap Stop when the meeting or lecture ends. The phone turns the recording into text by itself, with no internet and no account, and saves it as a Markdown note in a folder you choose. A one-hour recording is fine: the limit is 2 hours by default, and you can raise it or turn it off.

**Murlivo for Android** Records on your phone or your Wear OS watch and transcribes offline on the phone. Free, no account. The phone alone is enough.

A meeting or a lecture is long. You want every word, but you do not want to type, and you may not want the audio to go to a server. Murlivo records on the phone and writes the transcript on the phone too, after a one-time download of the speech model. It works on any phone with Android 11 or newer; you do not need a watch.[1]

## Before the meeting

- **Download the voice model once.** Murlivo asks for it the first time you open it. Do this on Wi-Fi: after that, recording and transcription work offline, even in airplane mode.[1]
- **Check the maximum length.** A recording stops and saves itself after 2 hours by default. For a long day, open Settings, then **Maximum length**, and pick a longer time or **No limit**. A **Long recording reminder** can tell you that you are still recording.
- **Make room.** Audio takes space on the phone. If the phone runs out, Murlivo tells you, but it cannot record more.
- **Ask first.** Tell people you are recording. Rules differ by country, school and company, and Murlivo makes no promise of legal compliance.[1]

## Record and get the text

1. Open Murlivo and tap the record button. The screen shows **Recording** and the time.
2. Place the phone close to whoever speaks most, face up, on something soft so table knocks do not drown out voices. In a lecture hall, sit near the front.
3. When something important is said, tap **Mark**. Each mark is saved with its time, so you can find that moment later.
4. You can lock the phone. The recording keeps going.
5. To read along, tap **Show live transcript**. Text appears after the first two minutes and then updates as people speak.
6. Tap Stop at the end. You can add a title if you like. Murlivo finishes the text on the phone, then writes the note to your notes folder.

## How long until the text is ready?

Murlivo already transcribes while you record, so a lot of the work is done when you tap Stop. What is left still takes time, because all the work happens on your phone and not in a data centre.

How long it takes depends on your phone. On one of our test phones, a recent flagship with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the default **Small** voice model needed about 2 minutes 40 seconds of work for a recording of 7 minutes 44 seconds (measured on 11 October 2026). An older or cheaper phone takes longer. On the same phone, the **Accurate (larger)** model took about a third longer, so keep Small unless you need it.

The phone can be locked while it works. If a transcription takes far too long, Murlivo stops it so it does not drain your battery, and shows **Try again**. If the text comes out in the wrong language, choose the language in Settings, under **Transcription language**, and transcribe that recording again. Murlivo detects the language by itself, or you choose one of 20.[1]

## After the meeting: find, play and share

- **Search in note** finds a word in a long transcript and jumps between the matches.
- **Who said what.** In a recording of 3 minutes or more with two or more voices, the transcript marks each speaker (Speaker 1, Speaker 2). Tap a label to rename a speaker or merge two, for this recording.[1]
- Play the audio from inside the note, or tap a mark to play from that moment.
- Use **Share as text**, **Share as Markdown** or **Share audio file** to send it to a colleague or another app, or **Copy transcript**.
- In your notes folder, each day has one Markdown file in an `Inbox` folder, and each recording is a section in it, with the time, the text and your marks. The audio sits in a subfolder next to it.[1]

## What Murlivo does not do

- It is not a meeting bot. It does not join video calls; it records what the phone microphone hears in the room.[1]
- It cannot record while a phone call is using the microphone.
- It does not write a summary or action items. You get the full text and the audio.
- It keeps no copy on a server and has no web app, so there is nothing to log in to from a laptop. To get a note onto a computer, share it, or keep your notes folder in a place you already sync.[1]
- The text is only as good as the sound. Far voices, cross-talk and loud rooms give more mistakes.
