# Record from your Wear OS watch and get the text on your phone

Checked 1 November 2026 by the Murlivo team.

Quick answer

Install Murlivo on your Android phone and on your Wear OS 3 or newer watch, then add the Murlivo tile. Tap it to record from your wrist, even when the phone is in another room. The watch keeps the audio and sends it to the phone when they are back in range; the phone turns it into text offline and saves it as a Markdown note.

**Murlivo for Android** Records on your phone or your Wear OS watch and transcribes offline on the phone. Free, no account. The phone alone is enough.

[Get it on Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.odezio.murlivo)

Ideas come when your hands are busy: on a run, while cooking, in the car. Getting the phone out takes too long. With a Wear OS watch, one tap on the wrist starts a recording. The watch only records; the phone does the transcription, so you need the phone app too. The phone app also works on its own, without any watch.[1]

## Set it up

1. Install Murlivo on your phone from Google Play. The phone app and the Wear OS app share one listing. Your phone needs Android 11 or newer and your watch Wear OS 3 or newer.[1]
2. Install Murlivo on the watch from the Play Store on the watch.
3. Open Murlivo on the phone and follow the setup: choose your notes folder, and download the voice model when asked, once, on Wi-Fi. The phone finds the watch by itself while the two are connected; the **Watch** page in Settings shows it.
4. Add the tile. On the watch, swipe from the watch face to your tiles. Scroll to the end and tap **Add tile**. Choose Murlivo. The phone app shows these steps too, in Settings, on the **Watch** page.
5. Optional: add the Murlivo complication to your watch face. It also starts a recording in one tap.

## Record from your wrist

1. Swipe to the Murlivo tile and tap **Tap to record**. The watch shows **Recording**.
2. Speak, then tap to stop.
3. If the phone is near, the recording goes to it at once and the watch shows **Sent to phone**. While the watch records near the phone, the phone can already show **Transcribing live on this phone**.
4. If the phone is far away, the watch shows **Saved on watch**. It keeps the recording and sends it by itself when the phone is back in range. You do not need to do anything.

On the phone, the new recording appears in the list, marked with a small watch icon. The phone transcribes it and adds it to that day's Markdown note in your notes folder, under a heading with the time and "Watch". On the watch, the recording list shows the status of each one, and you can play a recording back.

## Use the watch as a remote for the phone

Sometimes the phone is the better microphone, for example on the table in a meeting. The Murlivo app has a second tile, **Murlivo on phone**, that starts a recording on the phone from your watch. If the phone app is closed, the phone asks **Record on this phone?**, and the watch tells you to tap that prompt. You can stop a recording from either device: while the watch records, the phone shows a stop button for it, and the watch has a stop button for a recording on the phone.

## How long the text takes

The watch never transcribes. The phone does, after the recording reaches it, so the speed depends on your phone, not your watch.

How long it takes depends on your phone. On one of our test phones, a recent flagship with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the default **Small** voice model needed about 2 minutes 40 seconds of work for a recording of 7 minutes 44 seconds (measured on 11 October 2026). An older or cheaper phone takes longer. On the same phone, the **Accurate (larger)** model took about a third longer, so keep Small unless you need it.

## Limits to know

- You need the phone app. The watch records alone, but the text is made only on the phone.[1]
- Recordings wait on the watch until the phone is in range. Until then there is no text, and a watch has less free space than a phone.
- A watch microphone is small and close to your mouth. It is good for your own voice, less good for a whole room.
- The phone cannot start a recording on the watch; you start watch recordings on the watch.
- Deleting a recording removes it from the watch and the phone, but the note in your notes folder is kept.

## Questions

### Does the watch need to be connected to record?

No. The watch records on its own and sends the recording to the phone when they are back in range.

### Does it work with any Wear OS watch?

It needs Wear OS 3 or newer on the watch and Android 11 or newer on the phone.

### Is it free?

Yes. The phone app and the watch app are free, with no ads, no subscription and no account.
